UmmelGroup Leads Government Project Receiving National EA Award
Washington, DC (August 26, 2009) - The Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) has been selected to receive the Leadership in Enterprise Driven Results award, presented by the 1105 Government Information Group, at their 9th annual Enterprise Architecture Conference on September 10, 2009, in Washington, DC.
The award recognizes the Kansas Department of Corrections for it’s achievement in completing Strategic Technical Architecture Roadmap (STAR). Among the outcomes from the STAR project, was an agency-wide business process analysis which resulted in the development of a 10 year strategic roadmap. The roadmap is a “business first” view of a carefully orchestrated portfolio of information technology modernization initiatives – each traceable to KDOC’s (and the larger justice and law enforcement community) strategic objectives, mission, and vision. Over 150 project participants were involved in the initiative across all divisions of KDOC, in teamwork with other federal, state, and local stakeholder organizations. Facilitation for the entire project was provided, under contract, by UmmelGroup International, Inc, (www.ummelgroup.com) a privately held consulting firm specializing in government enterprise architecture. The approach for the project employed a proven methodology called Business Enterprise Architecture Methodology (BEAM) developed by Ken Orr, of the Ken Orr Institute (www.kenorrinst.com). BEAM has been well adopted worldwide, with customers including the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT), who won this same award in a similar project in 2002. Representatives from UmmelGroup and the State of Kansas project team will be on hand during the event. Mr. Bill Roth, State of Kansas Chief Information Technology Architect (CITA) will be accepting the award on behalf of the State.
