Press Release For Immediate Distribution UmmelGroup International, Inc. Delivers iSecure IT Security Risk Assessment
(July 1, 2005) UmmelGroup International, Inc., based in Topeka, Kansas, has successfully delivered an enterprise-wide IT security risk assessment for State of Nebraska’s Department of Work Force Services.
This security risk assessment, branded “iSecure”, was facilitated by UmmelGroup in coordination with key state agency personnel, and delivered through our high-impact consulting services in a highly aggressive 6 month timeframe. UmmelGroup’s 5-step security risk assessment approach was adopted, in consideration of NIST standards and emerging USDOL and SSA security requirements for state workforce agencies. Our unique “fast-track” approach allowed us to quickly quantify risk across the entire organization, so that limited security funds could be applied in the most effective manner.
iSecure Risk Assessment Process
- Asset Identification (Valuation)
- Threat Assessment
- Vulnerability Assessment
- Risk Assessment
- Implement Countermeasures
Among the principles and objectives driving the development of iSecure, include, but are not limited to:
Practical and appropriate measures implemented in proportion to value of assets needing protection
Pragmatic balance achieved among the need for access vs. need for security
Strategy for regular internal/external audit and annual self-assessment
Emphasis on security awareness and education - the human factor
The value of the iSecure initiative is easy to measure, in that it directly supported a set of grant applications and resulted in number of federal security grant awards over a 2 year period, totaling more than $1M. These resources are being invested in initiatives designed to “shore up” the highest risk security areas, as quantified via iSecure.
UmmelGroup International, Inc. (www.UmmelGroup.com) is a privately held Kansas corporation offering IT management consulting services for federal/state/local government and private sector organizations around the world.
